Xavier golf wins SCC title

ORANGE — Xavier golf won the Southern Connecticut Conference crown today at Racebook Country Club in Orange, beating out Hand by four strokes in the 18-hole championship. It is Xavier's first SCC title since 2008, and their third overall (2002).

Xavier senior Geoff Vartelas finished with a 2-over 73, one stroke behind medalist Brian Carlson of Hand. Xavier's Geoff DeVille tied for sixth individually with a 5-over 76.

Xavier will play in the Division I state tournament Monday at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron, looking to better last year's sixth-place finish.
