Bigger city football surprise: Xavier's loss or Middletown's record?
There are two better-than-average high school football teams in Middletown — that is becoming increasingly clear.But if someone had made a preseason prediction that Middletown would be in better playoff position than Xavier, they'd probably get some odd looks.
Yet here we are. Middletown is 5-0. Xavier is 4-1. So what's the bigger surprise: Middletown's 5-0 record or Xavier's 40-20 loss to Hand? Cast your vote:

Hand senior Matt Walsh scored five touchdowns to lead No. 3 Hand to a 40-20 Southern Connecticut Conference win over No. 1 Xavier Friday night at Palmer Field.
Hand, the defending Class L state champion, has won 18 straight games.
Xavier, which has won the past two Class LL state titles, has won 30 straight games.

Hand, leading 33-20, just recovered fumble on ensuing kickoff. Hand takes over with 7:04 left.
